COBDEN SCORE DECISIVE VICTORY OVER BLACKBALL

Cobden seniors scored an overwhelming victory over Blackball, by an innings and 86 runs at Blackball yesterday. Blackball won the toss and elected to field. Cobden began cautiously and their opening batsmen, A. Barlow and L. McGrath compiled a total of 19 runs between them before being dismissed by Fleming. Top scorers were, A. Knapp, who scored 35 and D. Dewar with 31 runs. Next best were R. Marks with 10, R. Barlow not out 14, and R. Lee 14. The Cobden batsmen made clever use of the wicket and A. Knapp hit three fours and two sixes. R. Lee and D. Dewar each hit three four.. Cobden never looked like being beaten and richly deserved their win. Best bowlers of the day were, R. Lee, who took six wickets for 7 runs, while D. Dewar took four for 9 for Cobden. Lee and Dewar bowled confidentland had their opponents baffled. Not one of the Blackball batsnien were allowed to reach double figures in their first innings while in the second innings only Pascoe, who scored a shaky 15, and Vincent a slow ten, reached double figures. Blackball appeared to lose confidence in themselves under the deadly, accurate bowling from Lee and Dewar. However, in their second innings, Blackball seemed to take heart, but the best efforts were not able to avert a heavy defeat. The best bowlers for Blackball were S. Fleming who took 3 wickets for 17, and J. Hooper 3 for 19. Cobden made 150 runs in their first innings while Blackball were all out .or li, there being five ducks while the highest score was five. Cobden showed considerably improved form in both batting and bowling, and judging by their performance will be a difficult team to beat.
