WATAROA NOTES
(Our Own Corresponden). WATAROA, October 11. The hot weather during the week gave place to a cold spell at the week-end. A bulldozer which is being taken to Mount Cook, is being worked on the properties of farmers in Wataroa. A demonstration of the Fordson Major tractor was given on the property of Mr. James Nolan, during the week. The machine was purchas ci by Mr Nolan and should be of excellent service in breaking in th-_-land.
Excellent support has been forthcoming n subscriptions for a navi! ion in the Domain from Franz Josef and Wataroa residents. The Government has promised a subsidy, and the building will be erected as soon as sufficient funds are available. Works in the district were inspected during the week by the Westland County Council Engneer, Mr. Clarke. Mr.'Malcolm Clark is assisting xxolan Brothers in their cattle drive from Okuru to Wataroa. The cattie are reported to be of excellent quality. , .. Only limited quantities ol white bait were caught during U.c weem The sale of work to be helu bv tnc Catholic Church is well in hand, and a record crowd is expected. Residents of the Fox and Franz Joseph Glacier areas have forwarded numerous gifts. Mr. Christensen and ms orchestra will provide the music. Mr. Stevens, of .Addison and Coy., drapers, was a visitor to the district during the week. Mr George Grofsky. representing W. Stopforth, visited Wataroa during the week. Mr. Jim Thompson, of Okarito, nas been admitted t 0 the Westland Hosnital to undergo an operation. His friends wish hi ma sptedy recovery.
