NIZAM GIVES CONTROL TO THE INDIANS

Hyderabad’s Last Kick ?

(Received September 21, 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, September 21. The Nizam of Hyderabad has formally relinquished control of the State with a proclamation orueiing mac iia subjects should "render faithful, unflinching obedience to the Indian Military Governor.” , The Governor, Major-General Chowdrhy, has ordered that the Hyderabad Government’s agents abroad shall cease their activities immediately. This affects the Agents-General in London, New York, Cairo, Karachi and New Delhi, and also the Hyderabad delegation to U.N.O. The United Nations Security Council, meeting in Paris to-day, decided to adjourn the consideration of Hyderabad’s complaint against India for a few day. to enable the Hyderabad delegation to receive a communication from its Government.

The Hyderabad representative, the secretary-general oi the Hyderabad Foreign Office, Zahir Ahmed, said the Nizam had not sent his delegation any instruction. “There have not been any communal disorders in Hyderabad and we hope the Indian authorities’ conduct will be such as to remove cause of bitterness in future,” he added. “The Hyderabad delegation also hopes that a solution will be found which will take into account the vital interests of both parties and the authority of the United Nations.” India’s representative, Sir Ramaswami Mudaiiar, said he had vainly tried to communicate to the Hyderabad delegation an order signed oy the Nizam to withdraw the Hyderabad complaint. Hyderabad’s withdrawal was not caused by Indian pressure, but had been ordered by the Nizam himself before the Indian armies reached Hyderabad. Hyderabad was not competent to bring a complaint before the Council. The instruction which the Nizam sent to the delegation left no doubt as to the U.N.O. Council’s course.

The American delegate, Dr. Philip Jessup, asked the two delegations to keep the Council informed of any changes which' might transpirt in Hyderabad. The Indian Government declaration that people of Hyderabad should be given an opportunity to decide their own future, was something of interest not only to the Security Council, but to the United Nations.

The delegates of Argentine, Colombia and Syria declared that the Council must not ignore the rights of small nations, but must deal with this matter.
