Crew Abandons Burning Greek Ship
NEW YORK, Sept. 20 The Greek steamer Orion (470 J tons) reported that she is aground and on fire on the strait of Belle Isle, between Labrador and Newfoundland, and the fire has forced the crew to abandon the ship. A coastguard cutter is on the way but is not expected to reach the Orion until to-morrow. Ten of the Orion’s crew are suffering from burns following an explosion aboard the ship.
Members of Crew Burned and Injured
(Rec. 10.0) NEW YORK, Sept. 21. A Coast Guard flying-boat removed eight badly burned and injured members of the crew from the Greek merchantman Orton. The Coast Guard reported that other members of the crew, totalling 35, are still aboard. , A tug reached the steamer Loch Monar yesterday, but reported that the seas were too rough to begin any kind of rescue operations.
