WATAROA NOTES

The South Westland community have been pleased to have a visit from the Minister of Health, the Hon. Miss Mabel Howard, who was met at Wataroa on Monday by Mr J. B. Kent, M.F., who introduced to her members of the Medical Association. The stop-bank along the south bank of the Waitangi River below the main traffic bridge has been completed, and the substantial nature of the work suggests that a lang standing job has bees done. The Catchment Board, County Council and local settlers contributed to the cost. Mr Louis Condon has been visiting his,aunt, Mrs R. Adamson. He will return to Bruce Bay shortly. Mr Deacon, of Ross, who has been employed here on the Public Works, is returning to his home. Because of the excellent weather being experienced, the work of repainting the Catholic Church buildings is being pushed ahead by Mr G. Searle. , . To marl-, the 21st. birthday of their son, Cech, Mr and Mrs George Thompson, of Wataroa entertained a large number of friends at their home. The evening was snent in music and songs, and Mr John Walsh spoke appreciatively of Mr Thompson, to whom he presented a serviceable parcel on behalf of those present. Mr Thompson suitably replied, and a delightful supper was served to over 50 guests. Messrs Glass and Wright have been engaged in salmon fishing in the Mapourika area. The salmon are reported to be fairly numerous and in good condition.
