WELLINGTON, Feb. 3. Keen interest is being taken by hot’ l political and industrial labour in the half-yearly election of Hie national t --^cre t ' i ry of llm New Zealand Waterside 'Workers’ Union. which 'rill take place at ports throughout New Zealand on Wednesday. Mr T. Hill, who has held office for five vears, will be opposed by Mr J. F. Nanier, the walking delegate of the Wellington branch. Campaigning has been extensively carried out for and on behalf of candidates, and a heavy noil is expected. Close interest in the direction of affairs of the union is taken by political Labour leaders, but it is not expected that the result of the election will bring about any significant change in the union’s general nolicv. The national president (Mr H. Barnes), of Auckland, was re-elected unopposed at the half-yearly conference of the union last November.
The official results pf Wednesday’s polling will nci be available for about a week.
