GREYMOUTH V. AHAURA.
[to the editqr.] Sir— l beg leave to occupy a small space in your columns to exonerate myself from blame for refusing to play with the Grey eleven at the cricket-match which took place on the 10th inst. I may state my reasons for so doing in a few words. The Grey eleven being the first to go to the wickets, it was found that there were only ten of the members agreed to play present, and the time for starting being up, we challenged to play the Ahaura club with the ten members, but they refused, saying that we must find ihe quantity else they would claini the game, so a substitute was found till the gentleman, who was unavoidably absent, put in an appearance. But again the Ahaura club put their veto on the matter by refusing to allow that gentleman to play whfin he arrived ou the ILld, which I may state, on the authority, of I ally white, is contrary to the laws of cricket, and that is my reason for refusal. I am, &c,
Fraser Martin,
