Friday, November 28. (Before C- Whitefoord, Esq., R.M.)Groat v. Marshall— A claim of Liß'2s as wages for work done for the defendant, a storekeeper and farmer at Totara Flat. The defendant admitted that the lad had earned LlO Bs, but he had been paid that amount, and there ~ : - was still 1 a ; contra account remaining against him>'of 14J 7s lid, which defendant now claimed] ' ' ; The plaintiff said he was engaged by defend l aut to work for 30s a week with board,and part of the time at 12a a.day without board., .The defendant denied' this^and said that the wages were to 3 be v :2os;per week, and that the plaintiff was not worth any more, or even that. On looking over the items in the defendant's setoff, it was found that the plaintiff, who owed the defendant a debt before'he went to work for him was credited for amounts in cash in excess of the. sums he said 1 he paid. The evidence altogether was' Verycontradictory, and the C.iurt at length gave a verdict for the defendant with costs. Mr Suite for the defendant. v Potts v. Mitchell— A claim of L 5 103 for advertising in the Grey Valley Times. Verdict for the plaintiff by default for the amount claimed with costs. , •,, Stewart and Burrow v. Kitchen— A. claim of L 5 6s 6d for beef, &c. Judgment for the plaintiff for the amount claimed with costs. ' In the matter of Knopp v. Hamilton, a claim for the value of a gold ring, alleged to be purchased by the defendant from the plaintiff.
