THE GOVERNOR'S VISIT.

The Committee appointed at the public meeting on Friday to make arrangements for the reception in Greymouth of His Excellency the Governor met on Saturday evening ; the Mayor, Mr Glenn, in the chair. The business of the meeting resulted in the appointment of a sub-com-mittee to carry out preparations for decorations, a procession, a banquet, and for c inference with the school teachers and others ; and it was agreed that the committee should attain meet, as soon as information might be received as to His Excellency's arrangements. At present there is necessarily considerable dubiety as to the hour and mod* of the Governor's arrival in Greymouth, but these will, no doubt, be known on his arrival in Hokitika. It seems to be unqnestiouable, however, that the Govern >r can only be in Greymouth during Thuraday and a part of that day, and ifc is possible that it will be found most expeditions and convenient to make the trip by sea. Should that be the case it will con siderably simplify the arrangement^ and enable Hia Excelleucy in one day to see the only "lion" of the district, the coalmine, and to be entertained at a public banquet in the evening. At a meeting of the Hokitika Reception Committee held on Friday morning, Mr Wilson was appointed secretary, and the following arrangements were made : — lt was resolved to erect arches afc Government House,'Revell-street, and the town boundary, and to provide refreshments for the children who will assemble at Government House. It was determined that the Governor should proceed along Fitzherbert street into Revell street and Gibson's Quay, and afterwards hold his levee. Sub-committees were appointed to carry these arrangements into effect. A notification has been received to the effect that full dress will not be required at the levee.
