[herald, nov. 29^]: In No. 2 South Larry's a great improvement is reported in the reef going south, which has now increased to a thickness of | 10ft, showing good gold fairly distributed. , r Shareholders at a distance 1 ' hear of this satisfactory condition of the mine. ■-■ •'■'"■ ■'••■■'' ' T " } "• : "-" : ' iit - Mr Clifford announces that a reward of , 1 LSO will be paid to the successf ril com- ' I petitor for the best plan /of a'crjishingl" plant to be erected at Black's Point. .The - reward is to be paid; one month after the i/ plan being adopted. , . . . A .drive ; has been ,|tar^ed to follow it in from the face of the hill. This taef appears to run very true
the base line of Caple's and the Fiery Cross ; and where it has been struck it is not more than 70ft from the boundary of the Walhalla claim. The width of the reef is 2ft. The contractors are still proceeding with the winze in the lov level tunnel, and wre-towa »on» S3ft. Tha Teef here varies in width, but shows very B °Hopefni.— The shareholders have commenced driving along the reef at the bottom of the shaft. I was down and saw a good body of stone, averaging from 3ift to 4ft wide, and the reef has maintained that width from the surface down. Some preliminary surveys have been made with the intention of starting a tunnel at a lower level. This claim may now be ranked among the foremost in this locality. Oaple'B.— Contractors wre progressing with the shaft, which has now been carried down between 60ft and 70ft. The leef continues with stone showing some very fair prospects. At a depth of 25ft there waß a slight nip-out of reef, but it was again intercepted at 35ft, and has since continued. , . Walhalla.— The shareholders are about to discontinue sinking shaft, and intend
to resume work in the tunnel. From the run of the new reef discovered in the Jnst-in-Time claim, 70ft from their boundary, they have reason to expect to intercept it by extending the .tunnel further { to the eastward. The situation of this claim i3. between Caple'a and the Just-m-Time. . Thompaon ? a prospecting claim has been started to be worked. I saw some rich stone that had been taken from the shaft. This lode is supposed to be a continuation of the Fiery Cross reef. •;•''• , Wealth of Nations.— The following is the mining manager's report for the five weeks ending November 28j 1873 ;-' We have broken out and sent to the mill during the past . five week,s 840 tons of atone, taken principally from the west reef at the 80-foot level, all hands being at present employed on that part of the mine except two, who are working at the east end on the surface. The average number of hands emplbyedin breaking-out and delivering the stone to , the machine, including blacksmith, is '25, and five hands employed at the machine, makes a total of 33 in all. The contractors engaged in driving the; tunnel at the 260 ft level are making excellent . progress, having driven in a little over .a fortnight 71ft in the timber. The machinery is in excellent •working order, as well as all the works in connection with the mine, and batteries can easily be kept fully supplied."
