Yesterday the Dispatch had employment on.the morning tide in towing out the: schooners Janet Gray and . the brigantine. Seabird, one of the Westland Freight Company's fleet, and in towing in the Wild Wave, from Lytteltori. The Wild Wave left -that port on Sunday week, and had a rough weather passage,'- putting, into! Ship Cove, and sheltering for a time, -without bringing up, in Totaranui Bay. The Aborigine, from Melbourne^ Spray. from Lyttelton, and; lsabella, from Dunedin. were towed into. Hokitika on Tuesday by the Lioness. ■ ' .'..": ; The Admiral Superintendent and the Master Shipwright of Devonport Dockyard have together contrived a method of reudering ordmarj- ship's boats unsinkable, without materially- increasing : their " cbst, impahing their c speed,, :or diminishing their carrying capacity. Boats fitted on this plan were^ experimented -with -on the other day, at 'the; dockyard, 1 and -proved most successfuL Fortymen failed to sink a boat even when full' of water. When capsised, she.instantly righted, and every portion of the'boat ! "when dashed to.jaecea on rocks .became practically a life buoy. The invention is not patented^ butis at the service of the public. ' '• '
