Melbourne —The Argus of the 27th ult. reports : — ln the import market, business has not shown much improvement ; a moderate demand, however, has been experienqed,: ; though thereis no desire to operate largely. In breadstnffs, we note the quittance ! by auction of 44 tons Howlong flour at Ll4 lj)s ; this, however, is an exceptional brand, and .the market generally is not affected thereby, although the price quoted is 5s more than was obtained last week for the same brajnd. There has been a good inquiry privately, which hasl^dto the quittance of aline' of 100 tons at Ll4 net, or equal to Ll4 2s J6d, ordinary terms. Bakers' lots still move off at Ll4 153 to Llo. For wheat 6s 9d is ijtill required, but this being higher than is warranted by the price of flour, only those who are forced can be got to purchase at the price. A fair business is done in oats; Under (the hammer 3000 bushels were quitted at 5s 3d ; 1000 bushels sold privately at a similar figure, and 1000 bushels were disposed ofin bond for export at 4s lOd (equal to 5s 3d.); Maize is heavy, and though 4s 7d is asked, 4s 6£d would not be refused. Candies continue to meet, with a good deal of favor.. One thousand boxes Goudas were got rid of publicly at 11 Jd, and 1500 D;R.O. 's have changed hands by private contract at lljd. Sugars are inquired ' for, more especially good, yellows. By auction, the cargo of Bourbon ' sugars, per St.. Francois, comprising 4190 bags and-mats, was cleared off this foreudon, Low yellows brought L3l to L3i 15s ; fine rations, L2B 5s to L2B 15s' ; medium rations, X25 15s to L 27 ; and low rations, L 22 10a to i.24 10s ; Mauritius ; grey crystals fetched L 36 10s to L 36 15s ; fine yellow, L3B 10s ; 2500 mats Java grey crystals were played at L 36 ss, and 187 bags Victorian, beetroot sugars were quitted at L 25 to L3l ss. Sales of Elenie raisins are reported at 7d. Devoe's kerosene oil was disposed of at Is 9d,' and 400 cases Oriental were quitted at .Is B|d. 122 bales ' Calcutta woolpacks, , of , irregular weights, and sold under the hammer in consequence, were cleared off at 3s 6d to 3s 8d Tobaccoes are steady ; we observe that, some 240 packages will be offered the public tomorrow. 'In u'uuida we note further sales of I O'Brien's dagger stout at 12s 3d for common, and 22a 6& ior champagne bottles.
