THE INANGAHUA REEFS.
[HEKALD, SEPT. 3.]
Mulligan and party, the proprietors of the large water-race at Soldier's, had a clearing-up a few days ago, with satisfactory results, though not equal to expectations. The quantity of gold obtained was 58ozs. ■
According to latest accounts, the stone taken from the shaft put down from the low. level.tunnel in Anderson's .continues to show excellent gold, and shares during the past week have ; advanced to 4s, with holders very firm. . . , The work fof fixing air-pipes in the Energetic has been completed to the entire satisfaction of the mining manager, and their effect has made itself; favorably fell in the improved ventilation of the ; mine.
In consequence of the flooded state of the rivers the iron necessary for the repair of the crown . wheel .; belonging to the machinery of Anderson's Company could not be forwarded,' and it is not expected that the batteries will , resume crushing this week., The .delay would have been highly vexatious if stone had been coming' forward more freely^ but as it is the time will -be ....occupied; ..raising quartz so as to fully employ the batteries when crushing is resumed. ;.-■;.:-. :
Tenders for the working of a shaft in the Independent (broadsider to, the Wealth of Nations) closed on Saturday last, arid that of Thomas Meldrum was accepted; at 34s per foot} driving 100 ft moWor less; According to the tinderly of the reef in the Energetic it is not contemplated ' that .the entire contruct will be completed
before a good body of sjbone is struck, in the shaft. : '
Wednesday, .the 10th inst. , is fixed for the completion of all arrangements in connection with the crushing machinery now in course' of erection for the Just-in-
Time and Fiery ; Cross claims , at Boat-
man's. The latter company are getting large quantities of stone to grass, while the Just-in-Time are not quite so forward, so that the general impression is that the Fiery Cross will take, the first imonth's crushing at the' batteries. The shareholders in both claims are most sanguine, and a return of fully" two ounces to the ton is confidently predicted from the stone stacked in the paddocks of both claims up to the present time. , '. . ;
[herald, sept. 6.] i The following mining report of the Wealth of Nations Gold-mining Company for the month, ended August 29, has been placed at our disposal ;by Mr' R. E. Gulline, the mining mariager. There have been 645 tons of- stone broken out and sent to the machine during the last five weeks, about two-thirds of the stone": being taken from: ! the : surface ; and • the upper tunnel. - There has been a slight breaki in the main reef driving north, but it has: made again as; before; The supply of stone now proved from the presentlevel to. the surface I estimate to last for nearly twelve months, but would advise a tunnel to be commenced at a lower level, so that it' l may ,be ' properly opened put and ventilated by tneans' of air shafts by the time it 'is required; The new -wire rope is now in use on the tramway, and we have been replacing the iron rollers with ratta, and find : them a decided improvement. Since the .stamp boxes were re-set, and .^witli ; the^ improved watersupply the machine' is working much better, than : before, and crushing more stone: ■■ Therace: is now, completed. - r - '"■
The contract for siuking the main shaft of the Ajax was completed on Wednesday. Tenders for cutting a chamber and driving for the reef are likely tp be called forjat an early date. The stampers have been returned to their places in the boxes,-arid the machine, generally, will be ready to resume work when it is wanted. All available men are employed erecting a new dam across the : creek below the machine house. , . .. ■'-." ,
