Christchubch.— The Lyttelton Times of Saturday reports :— The grain market is dull, in consequence of the continuous wet weather during the week. We hear -that oats are offering more freely, but we have no transactions to report. Quotations stand as they were last week, viz. :'— Wheati 4s 6d ; flour, Lll 10s; sharps, L 5 10s; bran, L 4 10s; oats, 4s 3d to 4s 6d ; barley, 6s 9d ; potatoes, L 2. In the provision trade also, there is no change to note. Quotations remain as follows : — Butter, in demand, Is ; cheese, 7^d to 8d; bacon and hams, fair proportions of each. Bd. uncovered ; B£d in cloth ; and 9d for extra superior lots. In stock and stations, at the yards, oh Wednesday, a large number, were offered, principally cross-breds, some of which made up to 20s, or quite 3£d per lb. It must, however, be borne in mind that the skins of these sheep were very good, and when the price is deducted from the 20s, the carcase will not appear to cost an excessive price. Mutton generally, may be quoted at 2|d for merino, and 3Jd for cross-bred, with every prospect of a rise as the season advances. The price of cattle still continues low, owing to the plentiful supply, and to the state of the West Coast market, which appears to have completely lost its elasticity from the constant state of plethora it is kept in by excessive supply from this side. The Otago cattle holders have, at present a much better market for their fat stock at 30s per 1001 bis the market rate, and we question very much whether cattle sent from the south of Christchurch to the Dunedin market would not yield a better return than is obtained from the West Coast. The yards,' oh Wednesday, were tolerably full, chiefly of good stores, which, taking the price of fat cattle into account, sold at full rates The few fat cattle offered did not establish much change in value, and, for the present, our average quotation will remain at 17s 6d 1001 b, with a tendency slightly upward.

[By Electric Telegraph.] j Melbourne, July 24. — Tobacco, improved rate; Jules Robins' brandy, 6s to 6s 3d; ■ currants, 4Jd; maize, 4s 4d; Martell's brandy, 7s 3d ; Hennessy's (new), 6s 3d ; flour, Ll3 10s; Patna rice, Ll9 19s; Hennessy's (case), 275 ; candles, lower ; Devoe's oil, Is 8d to Is 4d; woolpacks, 4s Idtoj4s l£d ; Adelaide sales wheat afloat. 5s 9d ; ' 'steady at 5s lOd ; flour, dull at Ll3 to Ll4 ; country flour, LlB 55. , ;
