THE RAILWAY DEMONSTRATION.
The turning of the first sod of the Greymouth and Brunnor Railway is totake : place tprfjay. The day is to be observed as a Government holiday, the Municipal Gouncil and Trade Corporations following suit. Numbers of citizens have arrived? from the country districts and from Hokitika, and it is expected many more will arrive this morning. These who intend to join in the procession will assemble in Boundary street before ten o'clock, and, when formed into order, the procession will march to Mr Coe's homestead, on the Grey Valley Road, where a suitable spot has been selected for the performance of the ceyembny. The following is to be the order of the procession i-^-Children. Police. Band. Friendly Societies. Fire Brigade. Volunteers. Members of the Press. Officers of the Civil Service. Engineers and Surveyors. Justices of Peace. Members of the Par. Resident Magistrates. 1 District Judge. ' Clergy. Members of County Council. Borough Councils of Greymouth arid Hokitika Members of General Assembly. W. H. Harrison, Esq., M.H.R., supported by the Mayors of Greymouth and Hokitika. General Public. After the first portion of the ceremony is accomplished, namely, the turning of the sod, a photograph of the scene
and of those present will be taken, provided the artists who intend to take the picture, Messrs Tait Bros., get a fair opportunity. Consequently those who wish to have their ' ' shadows " transmitted to posterity will remain motionless for a few moments on the signal being given by the firing off of a pistol charge. The free luncheon will rthen takerplace.T^ It is expected. that Mr Harrison only will address the assemblage -on ittie ground, but other speakers will have an opportunity pf delivering "themselves of "their-- con^» gratulations at the luncheon at Gilmer's. When the procession returns to town half an hour will elapse before the luncheon takes place, to give members of the different Societies who formed in the procession time to prepare themselves." _ The Band will discourse sweet music. during the in- r terval.
