Mr Gillies presided, and delivered an inaugural address, in" which' he 'urged that papers of a literary as well as a scientific character should be read at the meetings. He also remarked on the singular absence of geographical papers in the transactions of the New Zealand Institute. Gkahamstown, June 10. ■ : Forty Thames competitors fired for j' Mr Vogel's Prize— 7 shots at 200,. 600, and 600 yards. There was splendid shooting at the first two ranges. Captain Hazard made the stop score of 70 j.Grundy seecod, at 66. Champion Hoskins was well up, but missed two shots at 600 yards. The Auckland scores are not yet known.
