The state of the bar is rapidly improving. The Dispatch ran out yesterday morning and spoke the schooner Jennie Grey, but did not bring her in, as there was a nasty lumpy sea on and the channel ran close to the north spit. While coming off the spit on Wednesday night, the Kennedy accidentally got a warp foul of her screws. Yesterday morning the engineers of the vessel were successful in cutting it clear, although about eight feet under water. The Kennedy • leaves this morning for the north. The p.s. Charles Edward, and the s.s. Waipara are expected this morning from Hokitika. The s.s. Alhambra is expected to arrive here from Nelson on Saturday night or Sunday morning, when she will be despatched with passengers for Melbourne direct.
