GYMPIE.
A late Gympie Times says : — " The prospector of a copper selection of 80 acres taken up by Messrs Pollock, Durietz, and others, of Gympie, and situated near Rawbelle station, has returned, and on Monday night he met the shareholders. He informed them that the ground had been surveyed, that he had opened the lode, and that.,he had found it of great thickness and .richness. He strongly advised them to lake up more ground, and also informed the meeting that the mine was so highly thought of that it had been applied for seven times since it had been taken up. It was decided to offer a portion of the mine to three Sydney capi-
talists (with whom negotiations had already been opened) to be developed by them on terms. We understand that the prospector referred to brought down with him a large quantity of very good specimens, rich in grey ore. Cinnabar is now " the coming mineral" in the estimation of mining circles in this district. A short time since we chronicled the discovery of rich cinnabar ore in the Kilkivan district ; we now learn that a mercantile firm in Sydney (in which city there has been a good deal of inquiry in reference to the discovery) lately, entered into negotiations with the holders of a cinnibar selection with a view to pur' chase. One condition was that the ore should be tested by a Sydney assayer; this was fulfilled, and satisfactorily. We now hear that preparations are being made to work the mine. Mr A. B. Pritchard has some fine specimens of the ore at his office. The specimens came from the selections of the; Gympie and Wide Bay Cinnabar Companies. Some were taken from the surface, whilst others were obtained from a shaft Bft deep and from the 20ft level in another shaft sub k to a depth of 30ft. Various assays which have been made of ore from different selections on the .lode have returned 14, nearly 29, and 44£ per cent, of quicksilver, _we believe. Tlie* Gympie' Cinnabar Company has decided to sink further on the ledge and develop it. The two companies own seven selections ; three belong, to the Gympie, and four to the Wide Bay.
