The Nevada briags on the mail. The Port Chalmers Railway promoters deny that any offer was made to tho Government, or that there were negotiations on tho subject. The Christina M'Ausland passengers have been landed on the Quarantine Island. They refused to land if the Palmerston passengers were placed there. The latter are still on the ship. The Board of Health will consider the matter to-day. The Dock Trust have offered to dock the Dido free. The City Council purpose expending LSOOO in improving the Town Belt. The Council are taking steps for the Governor's reception. The Blue Mountain race workers have washed up 600oz for five months' work for five men. 7.40 p.m. The Dido goes 'South with the Superintendent, after which she will be docked. Sailed— David Fleming. It is probable the Christina M'Ausland will be admitted to pratique in a fortnight. The case reported on board the Palmerstou as gastric fever turns out to be unmistakable scarlet fever. The Board of Health have resolved to place the Palmerston'a on board a lighter at the Sandspit— which is to be proclaimed a quarantine station. The case of scarlet fever progresses favorably ; and there is no prospect of its spreading. Sailed — Strathnavar, for Auckland. The Mining Conference resolved to constitute a Central Miners Association for the Province, with Mr Miller, of the Arrow, as President. The first circuit of the Supreme Court was opened at Lawrence to-day. There was only one case, Julia DriscoU, a child, on three charges of obtaining money by false pretences. Case discharged. By the latest from the Rock and Pillar, 200 diggers remain prospecting. The ground is very patchy, but there has been some good finds/and it ib thought it will be a permanent gold field. The Diocesan Synod commences on Wednesday. Napier, Dec. 9. The Luna sailed for Wellington this afternoon, with the Hon. Donald M'Lean. The Supreme Court sat to-day ; the calendar is light. In the Maaka tribe murder of a scout "n JLBjS,B, the jury returned a verdict of guilty ; but repommended the prisoner to mercy on the ground of the great dread the natives had lof Te Kooti at that time. Sentence of death was passed,
