Dr Peele, of Corowa, has been tried at the Albury Circuit for the manslaughter of Daniel Pitcairn Hendry. The deceased was suffering from incipient delirium tremens, and the defendant prescribed for him as a sedative a preparation of morphia of more than ordinary strength. He took several doses of the medicine in larger quantities and : at much briefer intervals than the directions, ordered, and , death was the result. The case for the proser cution was that the medicine was of greater strength than ought to have been prescribed, and that proper care had not been taken in the administration of so powerful a drug. No witnesses were called for Dr Peele, and it does not appear from the report what was the nature of the defence set up, but, recollecting the evidence given by the defendant at the coroner's inquest, it may be presumed that it was argued on his behalf that if thft patient had followed the written instructions of his medical adviser he would' not have sustained any injury. The jury, after four hours' deliberation, returned a verdict of "Not Guilty," and Dr Peele was discharged. .
