Melbourne.—Tho Argm of the 22nd instant reports :— . In the import markets trade has shown no appearance of improvement, most of the attempt* to do business having been unsuccessful. In oreadstuffs we note a better enquiry for flour ; the trade demand is very good, and sales are made freely at Ll6 5s to Ll6 10ft. Parcels have likewise been more in request, and we understand two lines of 50 bags each, at Ll6, are amongst the sales effected in the cotrae of the day. Fine wheat is very scarce; the millers, on the other hand are very bare and in want of the better qualities. Sales of Adelaide wheat have been made at 7s 4d; a recent arrival has almost been cloarel out at this figure. Inferior to good may bo purchased at 6s Gd to 7s. Oat* are quieter, few lots being on the market; quotations are very firm at ffgarei ranging for 3s for common feeding to 3* 5d for fine milling. Maize is heavy,

and though we still quote 3s 3d to 3s 4d, there is no doubt that offers for parcels a shade under would be accepted. The Annie Brown's cargo of Mauritius sugars and 2700 bogs comprising balances of various cargoes of Mauritius BUgara— were offered this forenoon, but owing to the stiffness of holders, and the disinclnation of buyers to operate, there was nothing whatever done, and both parcels were withdrawn. We understand that the Sarah, which has arrived at Adelaide, has brought a few days' later news from Mauritius. There was no vessel lojuling for the colonies when she left. The Ittarie, which had arrived from Melbourne to return here, was to be kept there for the new crop. The Sarah remains at Adelaide. There is a good inquirj for candles, and offers for Brandon's just under our quotation of 11 id have been freely made without being responded to. Soda crystals are moving upwards *, Victorian makers have now raised their price to Ll3 10s to Ll4. Trade soles of woolpacks are mentioned at 5s 6d. In liquids we learn of sales of Martell's dark brandy at 6s 9d ; 10 per cent. o.p. rum is also reported to have been placed at 3s, Further shipments of Tennent's bottled ale hove come to hand : supplies of late hove been run out.
