The Danedin Jockey Clnb is beginning to bestir itself for the forthcoming races, to be held at the Forbury Park on the 22nd and 23rd of next month. The nominations for the various Handicaps were made on Friday, the Ist March, and we understand that the largest field of hones that has ever competed in New Zealand will be present at the meeting. There will be a goodly number of Provin-cial-bred youngsters competing for the Maiden Plate and the various Handicaps, Id which great interest is felt. The approaching Intercolonial Cricket Match between Sydney and Victoria will be a very keen one. The Welsh team is a particularly strong one, as may be inferred from the fact that they intend to leave out such players as Lawrence, Gilbert, Park, and Hewitt, the top scorers of last year. There will be the three

Gregoriea, Ruthful, Coates, Docker, Bannerman, and Hands— an old Bugby boy, of whose cricketing performances the Sydney papers speak highly. Victoria has a list of 25 players to choose from. Death is said to have been instantaneous.
