EXPORTS.

Per Charles Edward, for Westport : 60 sacks coke, 1 box,. Bank of New Zealand.

The p.s. Charles Edward arrived at this port yesterday, at 11 a.m. She left Nelson on Thursday last, a 6 1 p.m., for Motueka, where she arrived at 3 p.m., and after ship-, ping lOtonß of produce, left again at 4.15 for Westport. Came down under easy steam, and arrived off Buller bar at 8 p.m. on Friday, crossing it an hour afterwards ; discharged a large cargo on Saturday, shipped two boxes gold for Union Bank, and left on Sunday at 8 p.m., for Hokitika, crossing the bar at 9 a.m. on Monday, and mooring at the upper wharf. The Charles Edward landed 25 tons cargo, and left on Tuesday morning for Greymouth, arriving as above. She was to leave again last night for the North. A painful accident occurred on board the s.s. Napier on Sunday week, off the East Cape. It appears that a fireman named Richard Eastcott was engaged in some work in the engine-room on the night in question, when a sudden lurch of the vessel caused his trousers to get entangled with some portion of th<j machinery, and his leg being drawn in was broken in two places. Luckily, the engineer heard Eastcott's cries for help, and the [engines were stopped almost immediately ; hag it been otherwise,, the accident would, beyond a doubt, have resulted fatally. On the steamer's arrival at Poverty Bay, the wounded limb was set, and afterwards Eastcott was conveyed to the Provincial Hospital
