♦ [from our ow correspondents:] Christchurch, Feb. 2. In the Leeston District election Mr Reeves got 102 votes, and Mr Stevens, 101. Majority for Reeves, 1. AOCKLAND, VIA THAMES, Feb. 2. Yesterday two Waikato settlers went out pigeon-shootiug, and were fired upon near Pirongia by Maoris. Three followed them a couple of hundred yards outside the bush. In all twelve shots were fired, but no one was hurt. Warning has again been received. Tapihana is bent on mischief by his own account. Whitiora declined joining him, as the King refuses his sanction. Eden District Election. — Creighton, 188 ; Kerr, 117. Sailed— Flirt, for Lyttelton.
