UP-RIVER DIGGINGS.
(from our own correspondent.) AHAriRA. Oct. 19. The death of Mr Bullen, the Clerk to the Resident Magistrate's and Warden's Courts, has cast a gloom over the district It was astonishing to see what a general favorite he became in such a short time, coming as he did quite a stranger into the district. When his death was announced, a feeling something like relief that tl.e poor fellow's sufferings were terminated was generally felt. Every place of business in the town was closed up to the time the remains were sent to Greymouth, and the inhabitants turned out in a body to follow the remains to the boat landing. The track to Callaghan's is progressing as well as can be expected. The people here are thankful that the work has been commenced at all, for a feeling of uneasiness w*s spreading that an official recommendation might be made that the money we subscribed for the making of the road should be impounded by the Government, so that it could be expended somewhere about the Buller.
