(from our own correspondent.) Invercargill Oct. 19. The s.s. Wallace arrived last night. The 17th was kept as a close holiday here, in honour of the re-union of Otago and Southland. An excusion train, with about seven hundred passengers, met the Superintendent, ana went on to Winton and back, a distance of eighty miles, by rail. He was warmly received everywhere. At the dejeuner there were seventy gentlemen present. Messrs Macandrew and Reid's speeches were well received. They warned the people agiiinst expecting too much from the union, but they expressed themselves satisfied that benefit would result to the united provinces.
