Down in the World. — A miner. Waves that are harmless.— The waves of ladies' handkerchiefs. What does a husband's promise about giviugup tobacco generally end in? — Why in smoke. A paper says : " Truth is in type, but is crowded out by more important matter." The Iwoa School Commissioners have issued an edict, forbidding lady teachers kissing male pupils "if they are over 18 years old." A contemporary is anxious to know how soon the young Indiana ladies who advertise " love-making and man-choosing meetings " are going to get up " divorce matinees." "Woman is a delusion, madam!" exclaimed a crusty old bachelor to a witty young lady. "And a man is always hugging some delusion or other," was the quick retort. "Do you believe in the appearance of spirits ?" " No," said Josh ; " I believe in their disappearance, and have witnessed a great deal of it." An old lady, on reading that an ice-house had been burnt, remarked. "La, now! I suppose it was from spontaneous combustion. I often noticed that the ice iv the waggons smoked. " "Bill," said Bob, "-why is that tree called a weeping willow ?" " Cause one of the sneaking plaguey things grew near o\ir school-house, and supplied the master with switches."
