(from our own correspondent.) Wellington, June 29. The Treasurer's statement was hut night received very coolly, and with frequent bursts of ridicule. At the conclusion, Mr Beader Wood condemned its finaucial policy as the wildest, most visionary, and impracticable scheme ever listeued to. He wanted to divide the House on the concluding resolution. Mr Yogel twitted him 1 with the foregone conclusion. Mr T. B. Gillies heartily endorsed Mr Wood's speech, that the policy of the Government was the wildest and , most extravagant scheme ever brought before the House or the Colony. If carried, every sensible man would quit the country as soon as the fictitious prosperity induced by reckless expenditure would enable property to be advantageously sold. He objected s.trongly to adopting resolutions in favor of "protective duties. Mr Stafford and Mr Fitzherbert, without expressing an opinion upon the general scheme, urged that the Committee were bound by honor to adopt the resolution, as the Treasurer had disclosed items on which duties were to be altered. Mr Yogel had said he would not do it -t«** F v/itu,y cuuuuuoii ot new duties, anoT the Committee had not dissented. \ ■. Mr Fitzherbert gave Mr V.ogel credit for a candid statement. Mr. Fox promised that no Goverument business would be pressed until the financial policy was fully discussed, and an opportunity afforded for discussing every item in the proposed tariff alterations! Mr Wood withdrew his immediate'opposition, saying that he would reply to Mr Yogel. He had come to the House with every predisposition .to support the Government j but he was sorry to say that he found it impossible. ; The following alterations in the* tariff were proposed and carried in the House of Bapresentatives 'on Tuesday night
