♦ (from our own correspondents.) Nelson, May 17. Mr Sranklyn's seat in the Council has been declared vacant by the Attorney. General, in consequence of his resignation in favor of Mr Kynnersley. A new writ has been issued for the Grey District. There is a strong feeling in the Council adverse to Franklyn, and a vote of censure on the Superintendent was passed. : A fresh motion of want of confidence in the Government will be proposed to-night The West Coast members have met and agreed : to act in concert for the Grey and Gold Fields generally. |w. c. times.] . ' . Dunedin, May Vt. Mr Collie met the Chamber of Commerce yesterday. It was resolved to support the new San Francisco line of steamers projected by Mr Collie, the port of call to be not further north than Wellington. There is a strong movement in Dunedin in favor of making Port Chalmers the port of call. ; At a meeting of the merchants last night, it was resolved to form a company to purchase the Taranaki and the New Zealand 1 Company's plant. The capital is to be L 50,000, in five pound shares. Wellington, May H*l. The General Government have sold the steamer St. Kilda to Freeman Jackson for the Wanganui l»<ide. The Manawata survey is again interrupted by a native named Hopa, who pulled up all the pegs for a distance of five miles. Some Were pulled up in the presence of the surveyors. Another native moved the surveyors' camp across the river Rangatiki. The opposition is supposed to be personal only, not organised. Prompt steps are being taken to carry on the survey, and prevent further interruption. The General Government promised to support the Provincial Government, if necessary. AH the usual delegations of power are gazetted to Mr Rolleston . : M.essrs Robert Campbell, Thos. Frazer, Otagoj M. S. Grace, G. M. Waterhouse, Wellington, ; Thomas Henry Wigley, Nelson ; and James Williamson, Auckland, have be.en called to. the Legislative Council. ;
