Yesterday afternoon about halfrpast two o'clock the brig Magnet was sighted off the bar, whereupon the Dispatch at once got up steam and went out to her, having however ptnall hope of being able to tow her in. Although the weather Avas ihick and hazy, the Dispatch after proceeding a few miles qnt to sea camp up with her standing off and on the land. As it was then too late on the tide to attempt to bring her in, Captain Deare was reluctantly compelled, much to the chagrin cf Captain Clinskill, to leave him outside till morning. The Captain qf the Magnet reports the Kate Conley as haying left Melbourne Heads on the same tide with him. She may therefore be expected to-dayor tomorrow off the bar. The s.s. "Wallcibi took her departure for Westport yesterday, crossing the bar before high water. She went out in capital style, as there was not much sea running, although from the shore a heavy surf was apparently breaking. The Kennedy, frpm Hokitika, is expected on this day's tide. Intending passengers to Auckland will have an oppoitnnity of going there by the John Perm, wh ; ch departs from hero this day. The accommodation fumuhed by the Perm has made her a very great favorite wilh passengers.
