The 8.8. Egmont. Captain J V. Hall, from Sydney, arrived off the bar yesterday morning, and was tendered l>y $he p s. Dispatch. She left Sydney at noon on the 12th instant, •jjud experienced for the first part of the trip strong gales from S. and S.E., which changed •to strong easterly weather ; and towards the end of the run light variable winds and fine weaklier were met. She arrived off Hokitika at five a.m. yesterday morning, but the bar being impassable she was signalled to proceed to this port, which was immediately done. She brings nine passengers for this port, and two cabin and eleven steerage passengers for Ho^itika, some of whom were landed here. Another attempt will be made to work the Hokitika bar this morning, and the handy little steamer Persevere was telegraphed for to proceed to Hokitika, for that purpose. The p.s. Charles Edward, Captain Palmer, arrived, early on Tuesday morning. She called qff Hokitika, but the bar being impassable she was lfarned pff, and pame on here, where her passengers and cargo were landed. S.he sailed again yesterday for Westport. The s.s. Wallabi, Captain Daniel, did not ea.il umVl yesterday. Sufficient inducement not having offered to proceed to' Auckland, she returned to her pld trade, and saile.l for Wanganui with 80 tons of coal. The b.s. Lyttolton was successfully hove pff the N/orth Spit late on Monday evening last, under the direction of " th,e Harbor Master, without having sustained anys'erious damage. At mjdnight she was brought to the wharf, aud yesterday sailed for Westpprt. The cotter Satellite, Captam White, from New Plymouth, was towed tc the wharf yesterday morning by $ho p.s. Persevere. Fpr th.c last few days she h.as been lying in. Hokitika roadstead, fpr wh ; ch port she was bound ; bat as there was no appearance of any improvement taking place in $he bar there, she was ordered on here. The schooner Elizabeth, supposed tp be from Christchurch, arrived otf the bar yesterday morning, and was waited upon by the p. 8. Despatch, but the master, of the schooner refused her services. She came to an | anchor off the bar, so that we suppose it is ♦he master's intention te wait for a fair. B.Jant of wind to sail iv. The Panama Company's s.s. O.tagq is announced to leave this port for Melbourne direct to-morrow. As it is probable she will come pn here direct from Wellington, she •nay be expected well up to time.
