If the interests of the owners of tug boats shall be found antagonistic to the trading of the Company, it will be requisite that the Company shall provide tug vessels of their own. The Country above the mines in the Valley of the Grey, aud upon the Arnold, is attracting a considerable number of Settlers, aud the tratic returns for the mining aud agricultural population there would alone pay a handsome dividend upon the cost of constructing a line of railway or tramway comipiuiica* ion between them and the port. A careful estimate of the probable revenue to be derived from the trading of the Company has been made upon the. assumption that 50,000 tons of Coal may be gained per annum, and brought down to the vesst- Is lying at Greymouth After paying liberally for getting the coal, making a fair allowance for office and working expenses, and a moderate charge for freight upon the line ; together with 10 per cent, upon Capital, a prolit of 25 to 30 per cent, may Ins anticipated upon a selling price of 10s. per toii for the Coal placed on board ship at Greymouth.
