If the | interests I ' o'f the owners of tug boats shall be | found antagonistic to the trading of tho Company, it will be requisite that the Company shall provide tug vessels of their own. The Directors desire to allude to anotho source of profit wh ich is too important to bo lost sight of. The Country above the mines in the Valley of tho Grey, aud upon the Arnold, is attracting a considerable number of Settlers, and the trafic returns for the mining and agricultural population there would alone pay a handsome dividend upon the cost of constructing a line of railway or tramway communication between them and the port. A careful estimate of the probable revenue to be derived from the trading of the Company has been made upon the assumption that 50,000 tons of Coal may be gained per annum, and brought down to the vessels lying at Greymouth. After paying liberally for getting the coal, making a fair allowance for office and working expenses, and a moderate charge for freight upon the Hue ; together with 10 per cent, upon Capital, a profit of 25 to 30 per cent. may. be anticipated upon a selling price of 10s. per ton for the Coal placed on board ship at Greymouth. 7^ It 0W N GRANTS.
