MERIVALE CLUB v EAST CHRIST CHURCH, SECOND FIFTEEN.
The return match between these olubs was played yesterday on the latter's ground, which was in a very wet state. At 8.15 the game commenced by Shand (8.0.F.0., yellow and black) kicking off. The ball was smartly returned to mid ground by the blues' baok. Scrimmages now took placa, the yellows working the back to bines' goal. Here De Castro, by a smart run obtained a try, whioh, on being punted along to A. Mountfort, he dropped a splendid goal. In the second spell De Castro attained anothor try, no goal resulting. The remainder of this spell and the third were more even, although the blues' were forced down several times. In the fourth spell Gerrard for Merivale got a try, but failed to sooro a goal, Nothing more of any importance ooourred in this spell, Time being called the yellows stood victorious by 1 goal and 1 try to 1 try. The back play of the Merivale team was very good, but their forwards want a lot of praotice yet before making good scrimmagers. Stead (captain) played remarkable well for his side, who played one man short. ASSOCIATION MATCH. This matoh was contested on the College ground on Saturday afternoon, both eidos mustering well. The sides were fifteen against twenty, captained respectively by Messrs W. Millton and Fulton. Some excellent play was shown on both sides, but the victory fell to the lesser number.
