Concert and Picnic at Awahuri.
fFROM OUfi OWN COB RESPONDENT.] The annual school picnic was held yesterday in Mr Campbell's bush, near the Oroua river. The site was very mutable, and various games and races were got up to amuss the children. The children, aided by a few adult amateurs, gave a concert ia the Public Hall ia the evening. The children acquitted themselves very well and were a credit to the careful training of their teacher— Mr Rogers. A very fair audience attended, Mr Tarrant in the chair. Programme. First part — Overture, Misa Burnett; ,* May eong, school children ; song, ' Killarnay,' Miss Patterson (encored) ; song, ' Tiller of the soil,' school children ; negro recitation, Master J. Garrity ; • Wait till the turn of the tide,' school children ; recitation, Miss Pbillips ; ' The gay goblins ' was acted by several little boys who were encored. The prizes won by the children during the past year were then given them. Five of the children — Mioni© MeMuway, Carrie and Ethel Weightman, Norman Wheeler, and Angus Stuart —were awarded prizes by Mr Rogers far nevor being absent or late. Programme. Second part— Song, 1 Jack ashore,' Mr G. Monds (encored) ; song, 'Please give me a penny, sir, 1 Misß Lizzie Linton (encored) ; Boog, * Balaclava,' Mr Galhagwaod ,- l Waste not, want not,' schoolchildren ; song, ' Young Brigade,' Mr C. H. Tarrant ; * Little gipsy Jane,' school children. The concert was brought to a close by singing * God save the Queen.'
