Cancert at Birmugham.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual school picnic was beld yesterdaj', and a concert in the eveomg, each being a thorough success, and the children seemed to enjoy themselves very much. A new departure was made this year by distributing the prizes during the concert. The concert was opened by an over tare by Mrs Palmer and Miss Birch, which was followed by a recitation, 1 Young Lochinvar,' Miss Maggie Row les; song, ' Vacant Chair,' Miss Bella Lain a, encored ; song, ' Carrier John,' Mrs D. Alcßetb, encored; song, ' Home. Boys, Home,' Master Lnigi Mcßetb, encored ; snug, Mrs Palmer ; dialogue, ' Dolly's Doctor,' Master Claude Richardson and Miss May Laing. Mr Anyon (chairman) and Mr Mclntyre (head-teacher) presented the prizes, the former stating that this was the most successful picnic yet held in connection with the school, and that the committee were trying ta arrange a trip for the children to Wanganui. Each year they had bought the school prizes from Mr Cartbew, and that gentleman gave two special prizes, which would be donated to Maggie Baine and Stafford Bainbridge. This over, the musical part of the programme was again continued as follows: — Song, Miss Laing, ' Home Again,' encored, giving in response ' Coming throngh the Rye'; recitation, 'Reporting an Adjudged Ca9e,' Miss Mary Haricose ; duet, ' Sweet Dreaming Faces,' Mrs Me Beth and Mrs Fowler ; song, • Watching for Papa,' Miss May Laing ; song, Master Lugi Mcßetb, ' Climbing np the Golden Stairs,' encored ; song, • Old and New,' Mrs D. Mcßeth, encored ; duet, Miss Birch and Miss Richardson. A vote of thanks was accorded to all who in any way had assisted to make the concert aud picnic the success they were.
