Ashurst Notes.
# (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Monday evening last an examination of the St. Mary's Sunday school pupils was held in the State school. An extraordinary meeting of the local school committee is called for Saturday evening next. Mr A. Davey has disposed of his property on the Feilding road to Mr Thompson, late of Brunnertou. Mr Hatching, the local stationmaster, is having his annual holidays. Mr Cook, relieving stationmaster, is now in charge. The picnickers in this district will be pleased to see that there is to De no charge for tho nse of the public picnic ground at the north of the Manawata Gorge. The accident to Mr James Ellis was caused by a bale of wool pinning bis leg to the side of a railway truck. He is slightly improving. Several horses have arrived, and are now training on the Ashurst course for the races on the 29th. The children of the State school commence their midsummer holidays on Monday next. On Wednesday afternoon Mr Sidney Franklin and Miss Annie Mary Thessman were united in matrimony at the office of the Registrar, Ashurst. In defining the boundaries of another ward within wards 5 and 6 of the Manchester Road Board, it is anticipated each ward will embrace one township, viz., Ashurst, Bunnythorpe, and Coly ton, will be in separate wards. There was a crowded house at the Theatre Royal on Wednesday evening last, the occasion being a concert given by the children attending the State school, the proceeds from which concert are to go towards the purchase of a piace of land which is being utilised as a play ground by the children. Mr Andrew and staff are to be congratulated upon the very efficient manner in which the children performed their differest items contained in the programme.
