Disastrous Fires.

(Per Press Association). Melbourne, This Day. A fire destroyed Clarke's fellmongery, South Hamilton, and a large quantity of wool. The damage is about five thousand pounds. Hobakt, This Day. A disastrous fire occurred at Germanstown, Mt. Lryell. It started in tho bush near the mine smelters, and spread to the township of Pengahaua, totally destroying one side of the main street. Fully 60 families were burned out, including many business places. The damage is estimated at fifteen thousand pounds. A miner, Brent, was burned to death. The fire surrounded bis camp and with bis two mates he tried to escape. Brent is known to have failed and the other two men arc reported missing. The town presents a scene of desolution. The people aro taking refuge in the public halls. A fire at luvermany almost totally destroyed the Tasinaman soap and candle works. Tbe damage is unknown but heavy.
