At the Supreme Court Edwin Wilcox, for horse stealing, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment ; Henry McColl, found guilty of indecently assaulting a girl in the railway carriage wbile going through the Caversham tunnel, was sentenced to 18 months. Napier, Dec. 3. Mr T. Tanner's fine residence of 22 rooms, at Riverslea, near Hastings, was totally destroyed by fire early this morning. It broke out in the centre of the building on the ground floor, and when discovered had a great hold. Tbe flames spread with astonishing rapidity and the occupants had the greatest difficulty in escaping from the burning building. Mr Tanner lost all his private papers and every stick of furniture. Insurances —£3,300 on building and £1700 on furniture. Ke-insurances— New Zealand £1000, National £700, Standard £600, North German £500. Nelson, Dec 3. The Takapuna on the way from Picton to Nelson touched on the reef, near Alligator Point. The engines were reversed and the vessel was got off in a few minutes. The matter was reported to the Customs.
