CARTHEW, Bookseller, Feilding To Stand this Season in the PEILDINO AND UaNGITIKEI DISsTBICTS, The Thoroughbred Horse, HANDSOME JACK (Foaled 1890). HANDSOME JACK is a six.yearold, stoutly -built bay horse, standing )5 bands 2f inches high. As his name indicates, he is a handsome horse, and so fashionably bred that he is well worthy the attention of breeders, The stoutest strains of the English and colonial thoroughbred blood is blended in this horse's pedigree. Handsome Jack is by St. Leger (the well- known winner*producine sire), whose stock have won in New Zealand since the season 1895-6, eighty«one races, valued at £21,672. Kadiant, who never raced, is by that stoutly-bred sire Robinson Crusoe, whose mares are bo highly thought of by Aus- , tralian breeders, and as Kadiant is from Radiance, this makes the dam of Handsome Jack full sister to those fast horses Quadrant and Cruiser (sire of the Bangitikci bred Lorelei;. Robinson Crusoe , (sire of Radiant) is full brother to that i stud gem Onjx (dam of Nordenfeldt), and Radiance (dam of Radiant) is by Fires works (sire of The Mule, who is sire of the Grand National Steeplechase winner, i Mutiny, end the Grand National Hurdle Race winner, Dummy, this year), while Sunshine (dam of Radiance), is also dam j of Sunrise, a very successful stallion in New South Wales. A glance at St. ] Hippo's pedigree, who is considered by good judges to be one of the best horses r seen in New Zealand of late years, will I show that Handsome Jace has really a J J | better pedigree, as he shows the valuable | strain of Maribyrnong blood, which is | absent from St. Hippo's pedigree Both | horses are closely related on blood lines. i Unfortunately, Handsome Jack met with an accident while in training as a two-year old and conld not be raced, ' but, previous to that, he was highly f thought of and tried to be a colt of cod. j siderable promise. ! HANDSOME JACK'S full brother, ! Lustre, won the Dunedin Selling Race, 100 soys, also the Dnnedin Federal rj Stakes of 200 soys, 6 furlongs, 7 0, in 1.18, beating Saracen, Bay Bell, Kulnine, . Whakawatea, and Pique. ' Breeders must come to the conclusion, after a perusal of the above particulars, that they are fortunate in having so highly a bred young horse, and one so r closely related to all the best and most j valuable strains of blood to be found in : Australasia. HANDSOME JACE will be limited to a nutaber of mares. Thoroughbreds 5 guineas, and half breda at a rdasonab'e reduction. Inspection of this son of St. Legcr is invited. Splendid grazing at 1 my farm at Kiwitea, near Feilding, for " one month, after that time Is 6d per week will be charged.
