SPRAYING FRUIT TREES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Mr J. Mayo, Government Pomologist, draws the attention of fruit growers in your correspondence columns to the young of the scale insect which he says may now be seen on the more. This afternoon I have examined with a powerful magnifier about twenty apple trees, and I was not able to find a single on the move or aliye, because I took the trouble to paint all my apple trees affected with scale blight daring the first week in September when there were no buds open, with a preparation which is at present only known to myself. The remedies recommended by Mr Mayo are only a little better than useless. In oar wet and windy climate we must have a preparation that will adhere to the trees a long time, so as to confine the young scale within their shells if they are not killed at the first onset. The Minister of Agriculture intends to send the entomologist to examine my trees and report on The Fruit Tree Paint I have used. I am, &«., George Wilks. Feilding, November 18, 1896.
