The visitors, winning the toss, elected to I bat. Twenty was scored when Darling was bowled for 6, and when 52 was up before Iredale was caught for a well played 34, it seemed that a couple of hundred waa probable. GiffeD, after fifty minutes' play, was bowled for 18, but still only eight were added when Graham was out leg before without scoring. Hill and Trott made a long stand and forced the score by stealing runs. Up to this time pUy had been slow. With 107 up Wells bowled Hill for a nicely compiled 33. Six runs later, Truoable wna out for a single ; Trott; and Endy carried the total on to 130, when Eady was bowled having milled up 10. With the score unaltered Trott was caught for a carefully compiled 31, in which there were some pretty strokes. Kelly was caught and Jones bowled with the score unaltered and the innings closed for 130. Fisher took 6 w:ckets for 39 runs, Downes 3 for 42, and Wells 1 for 24. In the half-hour remaining Otago scored 30 for the loss of two wickets, Baker making 11 wben he was c. and b. by Trott. Clarke was out for a bad stroke for 8, and Johnston not out for 9, two byes making 30. There was no big hitting on the part of the visitors. Iredale and Hill each made three fours, Trott two four 3 and Eady and Giffen one each.
