To Stand this Season in the Fbuding and Bangitikei Districts, The Thoroughbred Horse, HANDSOME JACK (Foaled 1890). HANDSOME JACK is a six^j earold, stoutly-built bay horse, standing 15 hands 2v inches htch. As his name indicates, he is a handsome horse, and so fashionably bred that he is well worthy the attention of breeders, The stoutest strains of the English and j colonial thoroughbred blood is blended in this horse's pedigree. It wouid appear almost unnecessary to refer further than to his tabulated pedigree under* mentioned, bat the family he has descended from are so rich in winning blood that the owner may bo pardoned for just mentioning & few facts perhaps not gen* '. erally known. Handsome Jack is by St. Leger (the well-known winner-producing sire), whose stock hare won in New Zealand since the season 1895 6, eighty >one races, valued at £21,672. Radiant, who never raced, is by that stoutly- bred sire Robinson Crusoe, whose mares are so highly thought of by Australian breeders, and as Badiant is from Badiance, this makes the dam of Handsome Jack full sister to those fast horses Quadrant and Cruiser (sire of the Bangitikei bred Lorelei). Bobinson Crusoe (sire of Badiant) is full brother to that stud £»em Onyx (dam of N'ordenfeldt), and Budiance(dam of Badiant) is by Fire> works (sire of The Mute, who is sire of the Grand National Steeplechase winner. j Mutiny, and the Grand National Hurdle Bace winner, Dummy, this year), while Sunshine (dam of Badiance i, is also dam of Sunrise, a very successful stallion in New South Wales. A glance at St. Hippo's pedigree, who is considered by good judges to be one of the best horses seen in New Zealand of late years, will show that Handsomb Jack has ready a better pedigree, as he shows the valuable strain of Maribyrnong blood, which is absent from St. Hippo's pedigree Both horses are closely related on blood lines. ll Bird- „. „ = The I etcher Gui^di"'" ■ aron Economist ■t Echidna __, Miss Pratt g| D , Suita " H Poc.-ihon- Trampoline I ton MtaTwick- Kokin - h -- m - „ « _enham E)e tress 2 S RaUn Bu^aTd !O Daughter DaughterofPi ton 5 ° f t> u t .Melbourne J - Daughter ol Lisbeth £ w-a P antaloon CasTrel >, Wln u" a Idalia _£• hound _ , _ "c D , T °u hstone § Phryne p c oy « Mule^ , u M^ie"y < 1 Alice Moloch Nan_y J* 5 «~'|Haw- Lottery £ «. ihoro Rebecca Dtr of tervante,^ o *» m £ „°" Margaret " jj Dayrel El ' e " , t BTSfiddiitMT- — -c _Middleton Myrrha a £ Scutari Sultali 2 x Midia Velvet 9 «< ■ .. HANDSOME JACK'S full brother, Lustre, won the Dunedin Selling Bace, 100 soys, also the Dunedin Federal Stakes of 200 sots, 6 furlongs, 7 0, in 118, beating Saracen, Bay Bell, Kulnine, Whakawatea, and Pique. Breeders must come to the conclusion, t.ter a perusal of the above particulars, at they are fortunate in having so ,ghly a bred young horse, and one so c'osely related to all the best and most valuable strains of blood to be found in Australasia.
