The Political Campaign.

I (Per Press Association .1 j Auckland.. Oct. 30. I Mr J. M. Shera announces himself a ' candidate for tbe City. j Invekcargill, Oct. 30. i Mr J. W. Kelly, M.H.R., addressed his constituents tonight, when, despite a downpour of rain, he had an overflowing audience. The meeting was at times lively, but Mr Kelly got an excellent hearing, and a vote of thanks and confidence was carried with a little opposition. Christchurch, Nov. 1. The Hon. W. Kolleston delivered a political address to a large audience at the Riccarton schoolroom on Saturday night. He adversely criticised the present administration, especially deprecating the Premier's abuse of his position in accepting office in connection with the Anglo-Continental Syndicate. He supported the present land policy and claimed the Atkinson Government had iuitiated it He considered ii desirable further borrowiug should cease. At the close of his address lie was accorded a vote of thanks. He was well received and frequently applauded. Napier, This Day. A. L. D. Fraser, native agent, is de finitely announced to oppose Captain Russell.

It is probable that the writs may be issued not later than November 17th. That implies that the writs will be returnable on a date which gives the election at some day between December 2nd and 9th. A fair guide is to be found in the procedure at the last general election, when tbe writs were issued on November 18th, and the election fixed for November 28th. There is nothing, therefore, to prevent the election being fixed for Wednesday, December 2nd. — Lyttelfcon Times.
