(Per Press Association) Sydney, October 31. The League of Wheelmen's Summer Carnival began to-day on the Agricultural grounds. The weather was fine and there was a large attendance. Iv tbe League Cap, U miles, Simpson, New Zealand, was unplaced in his heat, The final will be decided next Saturday- ! The race of the day was the Orient Plate, 25 mile 3, for which £150 in prize money wan given, which is the largest ever offered for a scratch race, Before any great distance had been covered Simpson's chain slipped off and punctured the tire. Parsons retired after the 6th mile was covered and Pither followed suit at the twentieth. B.ody, New Zealand, and McDonnel, American, who were pacing one another gradually lapped the field, and the race resolved itself into a struggle between th,e two. In the last lap McDounell drew away and won by a couple of lengths from Body, Lewis (Victoria), % lap away third, 3 In addition to the second prize Body takes £23, pacing money.
