Otago Presbytar an Synod.

Per Press Association. Dunedin, October 27. The Presbyterian Synod was opened this evening, when the Moderator (the Rev. J. Lothian) gave his opening address on "Half a Century's Progress in Religion and Theology.', The question of marriage with a deceased wife's sister was then brought up by overture from the Mataura Presbytery, asking that the premises he taken into consideration with a view to rescinding the resolution of last session carried by 51 to 48, granting ministers and members liberty top determine what course they shall pursue. After an animated debate it was resolved by 68 to 88 to pass away from the overture. The majority of last year was thus increased by 17.
