Australasian Output of WooL
Statistics obtained from various quarters and carefully compiled seem to show that the Australasian output of wool for 1896-7 will show very little alteration as compared with last season, the total quantity being estimated at some 1,850,---090 bales. As regards this colony, for the purpose of such a calculation as is at present possible, it is considered that the greater weight of the fleeces will almoßt, if not entirely, make good^the diminution in the number of sheep shorn. The Queensland clip— and here we are on somewhat surer ground — will be shorn trom a slightly greater number of sheep, while South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania are not expected to show any material alteration, either in the shearing tallies or the output of wool. New Zealand is the weakest point in the compilation, since from the colony no definite advices are to hand, but so far as can be foreseen now, no serious change in the output is expected.— Sydney Wool and Produce Journal.
