To Stand this Season in the FbILDInG AND RaNOITIKEI DIBIBICTB, ( The Thoroughbred Horse, HANDSOME JACK (Fcaled 1890). ' HANDSOME JACK is a six»year» old, stoutly- built bay horse, standing 15 hands 2f inches high. As j his name indicates, he is a handsome . horse, and so fashionably bred that he is well worthy the attention of breeders, The stoutest strums of the English and colonial thoroughbred blood is blended in this horse's pedigree. It wouid ap« pear almost unnecessary to refer further than to his tabulated pedigree under < mentioned, but the family he has descended from are so rich in winning blood that the owner may be pardoned for just mentioning a few facts perhaps not gen* erally known, Hanmomk Jack is by St. Leger (the well-known winner-producine sire), whose stock have won in New Zealand since the season 1895-6, eighty-one races, valued at £21,672. Radiant, who never raced, is by that stoutly- bred sire Bobmson Crusoe, whose mares are so highly thought of by Australian breeders, and as Radiant is from Radiance, this makes tbe dam of Handsome Jack full sieter to those fast horses Quadrant and Cruiser (sire of the Bangitikei bred Lorelei). Robinson Crusoe (sire of Radiant) is full brother to that stud gem Onyx (dam of Nordenfeldt), and Radiance (dam of Radiant) is by Fireworks (sire of The Mute, who is sire of the Grand National Steeplechase winner. Mutiny, and the Grand National Hurdle Bace winner, Dummy, this year), while Sunshine (dam of Radiance), is also dam of Sunrise, a very successful stallion in New South Wales. A glance at St. Hippo's pedigree, who is considered by good judges to be one of the best horses seen in New Zealand of late years, will show that Handsome Jack has really a better pedigree, as he shows the valuable strain of Maribyrnong blood, which is absent from St. Hippo's pedigree Both horses are clo9elv related on blood lines. _| aron Economist I Echidna __ Mjgg Pratt g 2 Glen oe ggj^j p Pocahon- Trampoline Q-oT^inr Orland ° Totfhstone Q I Tedding- Vulture .1 ton Miss Twick- feo ki - niHSS — „ S enham Ele trets S S . Breeders must come to the conclusion, t, ter a perusal of the above particulars, , h at they are fortunate in having so { n ighly a brad young horse, and one so j °losely related to all the beet and most valuable strains of blood to be found in Australasia.
