o The burgesses may safely accept the assurance tbat in coming to a decision to light the Borough by gas to be supplied by a company, tbe Council has done only that which was possible under the circumstances. We certainly would have preferred the work to have remain ed in the hands of the burgesses, but we must acknowledge that there was no evidence of au inclination on tbeir part to undertake the responsibility by vot ing fc - a loan to be so expended, so that if the town was io be lighted at all, the only alternative was to accept the proposals of the company which has now, to all extents and purposes, secured the right. It will be seen by our report ot the proceedings in the Council last niyht that the terms of the contemplated agreement are drawn up ou h yery lib eral scale, advantageous to the eonsuoj er as well as to the supplier.
