V.R.C. BETTING.
(Per Press Association.) Melbourne, October 8. The following scratchings have been posted : — Melbourne Cup— Bayonet and Warpaint. Caulfield Cup— Jubilant, Upshot and Vigilence. Correction— The batting on Newhaven for the V.R.C. Derby to-day was 5 to 4 on and S to 1 against for the Melbourne Cup, Later. At Flemington this morning Tire ran the best mile of the season in lmin 4C sec. Newhaven taking 2sec longer. Bloodshot went 11 furlongs nicely, and O'Trigger did a strong H miles Hopscotch accomplished a fast 9 fur longs and Le Var cut out a mile in lmiu 48sec. After an absence from the tracks oi over a week Miraculum galloped stronglj and apparently soundly. Marusa is at 9 to 1 for the Melbourne Cnp. Hopscotch whs backed for £300 and is now at 12 to I. Other quotations are — Straightfire 10( to 7, Le Var, Homespun, Creraoine Preston, Damien, .'Ouhallow 100 to 5 Canoona, The Parinienne, Pivot, Righi Honorable, The Skipper, Merman 10( to 4.
The Manawatu Racing Club have ap pointed Mr J. H. Hnnkins delegate to th< County Club's Conference fixed for Feild ing. The Hokowhim track will in futun be at the disposal of trainers. Messrs W Chitham and E. J. Chitham have beei granted a trainer's license respectively. Anita was scratched for the New Zea land Cup at 2 p.m. on Monday. Day Star will not take part in thi Napier Park events. He will go t< I Wanganni for the Derby.
